Piano Lessons
About Frank Hood
Before relocating to southern California in 1991, Frank studied classical piano for two years as an undergraduate at Bowling Green State University in Ohio with pianists Frances Burnett and Walter Baker. In 1999, after seven years of engaging in adventure on the high seas as a Third Class Petty Officer in the United States Navy, Frank returned to college at San Diego State University to finish his Bachelor of Music degree. While a student there, Frank studied classical piano with Cynthia Darby.

During his junior year at San Diego State University, Frank began teaching piano lessons "on the side." Within a year his studio unexpectedly blossomed into a thriving, full-time business with more and more students of all ages eager to sign on for lessons. Consequently, Frank decided to take a hiatus from college during his senior year and devote all his time and energy to his teaching business. For the time being, he has postponed any plans for continuing his higher education. He continues, however, to study and perform classical piano music and currently receives coaching from San Diego Symphony pianist Mary Barranger.
Seasoned Performer and Entertainer
Frank currently performs as a pianist on Sundays at First Church of Christ, Scientist located at 41 I Street in Chula Vista. From 2000 to 2003, he was employed as the pianist for Second Church of Christ, Scientist in San Diego. From 2003 to 2004, Frank was employed as Director of Music and pianist for De Anza Community Church located in Mission Bay Park.

When not performing solo at weddings, recitals, parties, and other public events, Frank Hood is a featured entertainer with vocalist Linda McCue of the Lyric Opera San Diego. Linda and Frank's musical act features an entertaining and crowd-pleasing blend of light classical favorites and jazz standards.
Musical Influences
A few of the popular pianists who have influenced and inspired Frank include Roger Williams, Ferrante & Teicher, Liberace, and Art Tatum. Some of Frank's favorite concert pianists include Earl Wild, Thomas Tirino, Arcadi Volodos, Lang Lang, and Jon Nakamatsu. Franz Liszt is Frank's favorite classical composer.
